Text format: Kucinich withdraws from Presidential race

Dennis Kucinich announced today that all the energy put into the presidential campaign will transition into a new national organization called Integrity Now, at IntegrityNow.org.

You can read a diary entry about his speech today at DailyKos: Kucinich: IntegrityNow.Org!

Cleveland, Ohio, please do the entire country a favor, and keep Dennis Kucinich in his House seat! We need his voice of reason and truth. We need at least one person there with integrity.

We need the one person who’s willing to stand up and declare that the emperor is wearing no clothes.

  2. Tom, couldn’t you write something on topic, rather than just link to other sites? I agree with the statement on one of the linked sites that people rely too much on TV for their election information, but I don’t think Mike Gravel’s positions are enough like Kucinich’s for him to be a replacement candidate for Dennis Kucinich. Not for me, anyway. I agree that the corporate influences on Clinton and Obama makes them definite non-substitutes. I’m not sure that Gravel’s ideas about income tax reform address the completely unbalanced distribution of wealth, how many families are already at the poverty level, or corporate personhood. Besides that, according to gohealthinsurance.com:

“In Gravel’s new health care system, Americans will be issued vouchers every year to be used for care. Vouchers will be given based on expected health care needs. Citizens will be able to use the vouchers to receive care from any physician, hospital, or other care provider.”

What about unexpected health care needs? Those are what devastate people’s finances, force them into bankruptcy, and cause them to lose their homes. No one plans to get cancer, have a heart attack or stroke, or need emergency surgery or lengthy rehabilitation because of an accident. Sorry, but I don’t think vouchers are the answer. Though at least they cut out the insurance companies, they don’t provide for the worst case scenario, which everyone faces at some point. We need not-for-profit, universal health care.

I don’t think there is a replacement for Dennis Kucinich. I think most people who have supported him will have a lot of trouble being happy with any other candidate.

  3. The term used that means everyone is covered AND that is ‘most cost efficient’ is “Single Payer Medicare”. Such as H.R. 676.

I could go into a rant against lifestyles of the greediously mega-rich CEOs and their portfolios which allow cross ownership for them in many other corporate industries where ownership appears different, but perhaps you get the point that this is why plans such as H.R. 676 are more efficient and COST LESS overall for equivalent care.

  4. I think Kucinich made a smart move by dropping out to make sure he can secure his Congressional seat. We can’t afford to lose him. I wish I had him as my Congressman. I’m actually heading to Cleveland in a week or so to help defend his seat.
